School woes

Someone explain the importance of having a minor, aside from the fact that you are actually filling up elective slots with real classes. Are they something that could help you get a job?

I looked over the class lists – I pulled up the sample courses for Accounting. Psychology. Computers. The only list of classes that excites me is the psychology. Those I WANT to take. The other two I would force myself to take.

I don’t know what to do. Everything I read tells me that a psych degree is about equivalent to toilet paper. A that a business minor is no good either. But that’s what makes sense to me. Actually, I would love to minor in biology, although my test score says otherwise. Help me rhonda.

OKKKKKKK – I don’t have to do anything right now – right? I will drop chem, take another one in its place, and go from there day by day to see where it takes me. Cool. Now what to take. Either I am majoring or minoring in psych, I would be safe to take intermediate psych. Right? Right.

  1. This first year, especially, is your “play around” year. You don’t have to declare anything yet- most students change their minds a 100x before junior year where it does become more important. Sample classes to get an idea of where you want to go. I started out as a double major in English and theatre. Took a psych elective and that changed everything. As for the degree- they’re all about worthless. Lol It really comes down to selling yourself to potential employers and that means having passion and a genuine love of what you’re doing. Minors are nice simply because they may enhance your skill set but employers rarely consider them. Some will actually say that having a minor that is diverse from your major shows that you have a wide range of interests and knowledge. Others like complimentary major/minor. And most just care that you have passion and can do the job. Intermediate psych will be good for you either way you go- plus you’ll honestly like the class. That’s important too.

You are awesome, btw. I admit that I’m a little envious- I would love to go back to school.
